Online Education at The King’s College and Seminary

by Paul G. Chappell, Ph.D.,
Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer

When the Lord called Jack Hayford to found a college and seminary to equip and train leaders for the Christian community, Dr. Hayford felt strongly impressed not only to develop a strong campus in Los Angeles, but to make biblical and ministerial education accessible to believers wherever they live. Recognizing that the Lord has already planted many Christian leaders and pastors in local churches, the goal of The King’s College and Seminary is to provide theological education within the context of a leader’s current ministry.

In partnership with Convene.com, The King’s has developed a Web-based delivery system which allows students to enroll in college and seminary courses from almost anywhere in the world. Through online education, students can take the same courses and receive the same instruction as that given at the Los Angeles campus.

Online students also have full access to The King’s Library via the Web!

Will I need to come to the Los Angeles campus?

Now students can earn their entire bachelor’s or associate degree online. They need not relocate or even come to the Los Angeles campus. Students can earn their entire college degree from the convenience of their home or office.

With this new field-based degree program from The King’s, students can earn their entire master’s degree in the context of their current ministry without relocating. One-half of the master’s degree can be earned online, with the other half earned in short three-day modules on campus. For convenience, two modules are offered back-to-back.

How does online education work?

The school uses an asynchronous delivery system. This means students enter the virtual classroom anytime during a 24-hour period. Students simply go online, download their assignments, complete the work, and then go back online to submit their assignments. Students do not need to be online concurrently at a set time. They can do their work at ten o’clock in the morning, six o’clock in the evening, or at midnight--whatever time is convenient for their particular schedule. Students are free from geographical and time limitations.

Students really enjoy online courses. Online education is particularly suited for adult learners. You can establish your own daily class schedule to fit your lifestyle. Professors can provide expanded personal and detailed guidance which would be limited in a traditional classroom. Students can also interact daily with other students and not be limited as they are in the traditional classroom.

In addition, adult learners are able to make immediate application of the material they learn and to integrate their own knowledge into work assignments. Online education encourages students to freely express their ideas and experiences and to do so in greater depth.
